Set up Cursor

Dipstick reads Cursor’s local state database, opened read-only. That means the prerequisite is not an API key — it is that the tool itself is installed and already authenticated on this Mac.

Prerequisites

macOS 13 Ventura or newer, on Apple silicon or Intel.
Cursor installed, opened at least once, and signed in — the local state database only exists after a real sign-in.

Four steps to a live meter.

Step 1: Enable Cursor on the first-launch provider screen.
Step 2: Setup checks which pools Cursor currently reports and selects the available ones for the popover.
Step 3: Place Cursor Models in the menu bar if that is the pool you actually spend, and leave API Models in the popover.
Step 4: Choose Finish once the checks settle.

Fast local checks identify which services are available before any authenticated tool, credential, subprocess or network request is used, so an unconfigured provider costs nothing.

03 / 03 · When it fails

Honest failure modes.

These are the ones you will actually hit, and what each one means.

Cursor says Not Installed.

Install Cursor, open it once, then choose Refresh in the popover.

Cursor says Sign-In Required.

Choose Open Cursor. Cursor’s sign-in stays inside the desktop app, so authenticate there and return to Dipstick and choose Refresh.

A pool shows more than 100 percent used.

That is the cautious additional-usage warning. Check your Cursor billing page for whether it is bonus capacity, credits, or on-demand usage — Dipstick deliberately will not guess.
